Summarizing text and compressing images look unrelated — they aren't

Summarizing a long document and compressing an image for upload seem like completely different tasks. In practice, they share the same trait: both are prep work that has to happen before your actual task, and both eat a predictable chunk of time every single day. Summarizing meeting notes before sharing them, or shrinking an image before it goes into a blog post — neither is the real work, yet both take real time.

Web Efficiency Studio brings these two small-but-constant tasks into one page. The text tab compresses long text down to its key points and flags issues like mixed formal/casual tone. The image tab converts and compresses JPG/PNG/WebP/GIF/BMP files entirely inside your browser — no image data is ever sent to a server.

How the summarizer and image compressor actually work

Without an AI provider configured, the fallback mode runs extractive summarization — it scores each sentence in your text by keyword frequency and pulls out the highest-scoring ones as-is, rather than generating new text. Because it only ever selects real sentences from your original text, it can't introduce information that wasn't there. The proofreading pass checks for mixed formal/casual sentence endings, duplicated particles, and run-on sentences using pattern matching.

Image compression runs entirely on the Canvas API in your browser: the image is redrawn at your chosen width, then re-encoded at the target format and quality to balance visual fidelity against file size. Because no image data ever leaves your browser, it's safe to compress images from confidential internal documents.

Proofreading Before / After

Consistent tone

Before

"This product is very convenient. It would be appreciated if it were used."

After

"This product is very convenient. We'd love for you to try it."

Mixing formal and casual register within one passage reads as inconsistent to a reader — pick one register and hold it throughout.

Sentence length

Before

"This tool handles summarizing and proofreading and image compression, and it's free, and no signup is required, so it's great for busy people."

After

"This tool handles summarizing, proofreading, and image compression — free, no signup, built for busy people."

A sentence stacking four or more clauses with commas usually reads better split into two, or tightened with a dash.

Getting the most out of it day to day

  • Choose a summary length that matches its use — "short" for an internal meeting recap, "standard" if you're pasting it straight into a document, to minimize later editing.
  • AVIF availability for image compression depends on your browser — the option simply won't appear if it's unsupported. Use WebP instead when that happens.
  • When compressing a batch of images for the same purpose, such as blog images or an attachment set, use the same settings across the whole batch rather than tuning each file individually.
  • Pro/Business subscribers can review up to 5 past summaries in generation history — useful for comparing different summary lengths on the same source text.
